NBA stars train for North Korea match
تم النشر بتاريخ 07/01/2014 Former NBA stars, led by Dennis Rodman, train with North Korean basketball players ahead of an exhibition match for leader Kim Jong-un's birthday
American basketball players led by former National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman trained with young North Koreans, the day before an exhibition match scheduled to mark the birthday of North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un.
Former NBA stars including Charles D. Smith, Doug Christie, and Vin Baker shook hands with North Korean players before moving onto the court at the Pyongyang Indoor Gymnasium.
Organisers said that in the first half of the match, the Americans will face the North Koreans, and then for the second half, the teams will be mixed.
The North Korean players come from various local teams and are not the national team.
Former NBA player Doug Christie told reporters the North Korean players were surprisingly good.
"They were a little better than I anticipated actually. They had some guys who could shoot, they moved around really well, and one of the biggest things is (that) when we were teaching, they really paid attention, and it looked like that they were really interested, had a vested interest in trying to improve," he said.
Facing criticism over his involvement in North Korea, Rodman made a plea for understanding about his project, imploring Americans not to meet him and his players with "negativity" when they returned home.
"We're not trying to stand here, trying to control things, no, we're just coming to do something very nice," he told reporters.
