Toys of the future: London Toy Fair 2014

From virtual pets to video helmets, the London Toy Fair gives us a glimpse of what will be on our shelves in the year ahead.

The 61st London Toy Fair showcases the latest developments from the toy industry, from headcam helmets, to virtual pets.

The overall size of the toy market last year was £2.9 billion, down 1 per cent compared to 2012, but the Youth Electronics sector saw an overall increase, with higher value toys typically priced £50 not experiencing a significant decline.

The developers of Animin, a new 3D virtual pet that is projected into your surroundings via the magic of augmented reality, are hoping to take advantage of the growing popularity of tech orientated toys.

To play with Animin you simply download the app, point it at the interactive card, and watch your little character come to live, scampering around your living room.

Organisers of the fair the British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) singled out technology as 'playing a major role' within the top toy lists of last year, naming augmented reality as a driving force behind this growth.
